Jewellery Care

Proper care is essential in order to keep your gold or silver plated jewellery looking at its best. Remember that silver, gold and brass are soft metals that can scratch and dent. In addition semi precious stones can be chipped or / and shattered if struck against a hard surface with force. Finally, harmful chemicals and long periods of direct sunlight can discolour or cause damage and fading to your jewellery.

Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch to avoid scratches.

Put on jewellery last when dressing and take off first when undressing.

Tarnishing

Avoid swimming or bathing while wearing gold or silver plated costume jewellery, and remove rings when washing your hands. Swimming pools that contain chlorine and salt water can tarnish your jewellery.

Remove rings before you apply hand creams, body creams and soap.

Put jewellery on after applying makeup, perfumes and hairspray.

Jewellery and water do not mix well. Avoid leaving your jewellery in damp bathrooms or rooms.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

We recommend the use of a soft cloth with gentle rubbing. But please be aware that any vigorous scrubbing will take off the layer of gold plating.

Over time the layer of gold plating will wear off and we recommend you then have your jewellery re-plated.

We do not recommend the use of silver dips or chemical cleaners on plated items.
