New York – so amazing they named it twice- and November in New York is spectacular. There are so many things going on that you just don’t even know where to start – there is Halloween, The New York Marathon, Black Friday and Thanksgiving – and that’s only the headliners!
November marks the months when the leaves start to turn into a kaleidoscope of orange and red hues. Make a trip upstate to see the amazing foliage change but if you can’t do that just take a stroll in Central Park and let your eyes soak in all these amazing shades of orange and red. Halloween in New York is something to experience. Pumpkins adorn all the street corners and restaurants. Pumpkins so big that you can hardly get your arms around them never mind lifting them to get them home for a good old carving. Plus there is pumpkin everything- from pumpkin lattes, pumpkin martinis to pies, cupcakes – you name it – they have it in pumpkin flavour! Windows are decorated with spooky characters and spiders webs. Halloween day itself is like walking on zombie film set – costumes of all sorts on children and adults alike and not to mention dogs and cats! The Halloween parade even has flash mob groups breaking out into a Michael Jackson thriller repertoire.
A visit to the flea markets on the weekends are a must for all of us at Ashiana. We have some great Vintage finds that inspire us for our future collections – we found some real gems and had great fun in the process. Grab a real bargain on black Friday but be prepared to muscle your way into stores – New Yorkers take their bargains seriously and you need to work hard to get in but once in it’s a haven for discounts.
Finally – Thanksgiving. The windows are decorated with corns, turkeys and all autumnal themes. It’s a great time to dig into some good old home comfort food and take time to soak it all in. With so many things going on in New York in November it’s hard to find another city that is so fun and inspiring for this month! We always have an amazing time - Thank you New York New York!
